Oral Tips

Oral is one of those few 'killer' subjects in English and Chinese.
So here are some tips here for oral.

English: Reading ALOUD ( 10 marks )

1. Greet the teacher properly before sitting down.
     Dress neatly.

2. When reading the passage, remember to pause at certain parts of a sentence.
DO NOT READ THE SENTENCE IN ONE GO WITHOUT PAUSING unless you want negative marks and remarks from the tester. For commas, pause for about 1 to 2 seconds.
For full stops, pause for about 2 to 3 seconds. For a new paragraph, pause for 3 seconds.

3. When reading a dialogue, remember to use you voice to express the mood of the character saying the sentence. When you are reading through your passage for 5 minutes before the test, read the 'mood' of the character.
For example,
'Return me my pencil!' Timmy said angrily.'
When you read this sentence, the word 'angrily' helps to express the mood of Timmy.
So when you are reading this sentence aloud, be sure to sound really angry!!!

4. Read each sentence fluently like pronouncing your 'k's, 'c's and 't's correctly.

English: Picture Discussion
1. Look at the picture carefully during the five minutes long preparation.
2. When your turn has came, greet the teacher.
3. After finishing 'Reading Aloud', Start your picture with
''This picture depicts a scene of.....''
4. Describe the characters of how they look like, what they are doing.
5. Try to use good words when describing.
6. Go in the order of description, clockwise or anti-clockwise.
7. Describe everything that you can. Try not to let the teacher prompt you.
8. End with a detailed conclusion.

Conclusion

Go back home confident and happy!
